#2016GLOWUP Hair Cut + Color by Tamika Wesley

Happy New Years! As I’m heading into my third year of being natural (today marks 3 years since my last relaxer!), I decided to finally do something different. I was blessed enough to work with Tamika Wesley for a Wondercurl video earlier last year, so when I decided to entrust my tresses to a professional, there was nobody else I could think to go to. Keep reading to see how exactly what we did!

The first thing that we worked on was the shape of my hair. My hair had grown longer, but because there wasn’t a set shape my styles didn’t always come out right. Tamika clipped those pieces in the back, and layered all over my head so there was one shape. I wanted a bang, and she still made that happen for me even though my hair is super prone to breakage.
Afterwards, she briefly went in and added bleach to a few sections in the front. When I previously colored my hair one side was actually brighter than the other, so this made my entire head uniform. After shampooing out the bleach, she went back in with the bright red color.

Once the color was put in, it was time to style. We went for my usual wash n go look – Tamika has her own way of making my curls POP like I’ve never seen before. It’s a gift, tbh. We used the Shea Moisture Hair Serum + Wondercurl Get Set Hair Jelly to style. Tamika does the rake and shake method, where she applies product to each small section of hair and gently rakes it through. It defines my curls individually AND keeps ’em detangled.

Final thoughts? I literally love the way my hair came out. I’m so grateful that I had the opportunity to get my hair done by Tamika. She’s completely professional, knows what she’s talking about, and she’s so down to earth. One of my favorite things about her is that she tries to learn about your hair and then teaches you exactly what to do to care for it. In a future post, I’m going to share all of the tips she taught me during our initial consultation.

Would I go to Tamika again? 100000% yes! Even though my hair is chemically treated and bleached, it still feels soft and moisturized. Overall, great experience, and I can’t wait to share more photos with you guys!

In the meantime, make sure to follow Wesley Styles on social media! She is located in the lower east side area of the city, and she takes appointments online! Check out her website and her Instagram.
